Frequently Asked Questions

What is a node?

A node is one instrumented service: any application instance sending telemetry to IAPM via OpenTelemetry. This can be a standalone application, a containerized pod, a serverless function, etc. Services your applications communicate with (databases, caches, third-party APIs) appear on the Service Map as inferred services. Inferred services are detected automatically and do not count as nodes. Examples:

  • a single-instance API and a single-instance worker role result in two nodes.
  • a Kubernetes pod that has five replicas results in five nodes.
  • a SQL Server database called by your API appears as an inferred service at no additional cost.

What are traces and logs per second?

Each plan includes a throughput limit measured in traces and logs per second. Traces capture distributed operations across your services, while logs capture discrete events within a service. Any operation inside a node emits trace spans and log entries, and the volume varies by operation complexity and frequency. By combining these signals, IAPM recreates your application operations as they occur in real-time and maintains a historical record. Current limits: Start (50/s), Visualize (200/s), Analyze (1,000/s), Fuse (2,000/s).

I already have an APM solution, do I have to replace it with IAPM?

Replacing or removing any existing APM is not required. You can complement your existing analytics experience with the Visualize plan. If you decide to remove your current APM, the Analyze and Fuse plans are designed for scale and growth.

How is my data secured?

Security is a top priority for us. We utilize encryption in transit and at rest. This includes universal HTTPS on all public web sites and APIs, strong TLS configuration, and HTTP Strict Transport Security.

What billing options do you have available?

We offer monthly metered subscriptions with a specified node minimum per service tier. Start (Free) has no minimum, Visualize requires a single node, Analyze requires twenty-five nodes, and Fuse requires fifty nodes. Any nodes over the minimum are billed at a discounted rate. Examples:

  • your organization creates a subscription to our Analyze plan to monitor two applications with two instances each. Even though there are only four nodes, the monthly invoice for the subscription would be for twenty-five nodes or 25 x $45 = $1,125 per month.
  • your organization creates a subscription to our Analyze plan to monitor three micro-service applications: four APIs with one to five instances and two worker/headless data processing applications with two to five instances. The monthly node count would be somewhere between 4*1 + 2*2 = 8 and 4*5 + 2*5 = 35 nodes. With less than twenty-five nodes, the monthly subscription amount would be for the minimum of twenty-five nodes or $1,125 per month. Any nodes above the minimum will be metered daily at the discounted $30/node/month rate. This allows for more accurate billing especially when monitoring short-lived containerized applications whose count fluctuates due to automated horizontal scaling. At 35 nodes the monthly subscription amount is the total of twenty-five nodes at $45/node/mo and ten nodes at $30/node/mo or 25 x $45 + 10 x $30 = $1,425 per month.
Note: Please keep in mind that we frequently offer discounts and promotions that reduce the monthly cost for all available plans.

Why do the available plans come with a minimum required nodes?

Performance is a top priority for us. We provision a certain amount of dedicated infrastructure for all paid plans to avoid service disruptions or inconsistent performance.

Can I store additional data and choose a longer data retention?

Yes. We offer data retention from one day to thirteen months. Additional data retention is an add-on subscription to your selected IAPM plan.

Can I have additional APM Web and/or APM 3D/VR users?

Yes. You can have as many additional users as you like. Additional user licenses is an add-on subscription to your selected IAPM plan.

What is the AI Assistant and what can it do?

Tessa is IAPM's built-in AI Assistant. She is context-aware, meaning she understands your live telemetry (traces, logs, metrics) and can interpret anomalies, explain system behavior, and recommend next steps. Every plan includes Tessa with usage limits that scale by tier: Start includes 7 queries per day, Visualize includes 35 queries per day, and Analyze and Fuse include unlimited queries.

What counts as an AI Assistant query?

A query is any request you make to Tessa within the IAPM interface, such as asking her to explain an anomaly, investigate a trace, summarize recent incidents, or suggest a root cause. Each query consumes one count toward your daily limit. On the Analyze and Fuse plans, queries are unlimited, so there is no count to track.

What is Code Fix?

Code Fix is an advanced AI capability available on the Analyze and Fuse plans. When Tessa identifies an issue, she can trace it from your production telemetry directly to the source file in your connected codebase, then generate a fix. You review the changes and commit when ready. Your code stays in your workspace at all times.

What does "Infra" mean on the Fuse plan?

The Fuse plan extends Tessa's capabilities beyond application code into infrastructure analysis. In addition to unlimited AI Assistant queries and Code Fix, the Fuse plan includes AI-powered infrastructure insights: resource utilization analysis, application-to-infrastructure mapping, and cost optimization recommendations. This helps teams identify underused resources, correlate infrastructure changes with application behavior, and reduce cloud spend.

What is the difference between Shared and Dedicated infrastructure?

Start and Visualize plans run on shared infrastructure, meaning your telemetry processing and storage resources are pooled with other customers. Analyze and Fuse plans run on dedicated infrastructure provisioned exclusively for your organization. Dedicated infrastructure provides higher throughput capacity, stronger isolation, and higher uptime SLAs (99.9% for Analyze, 99.99% for Fuse).

What uptime SLAs do you offer?

Uptime SLAs scale with each plan. Start (Free) does not include an uptime SLA. Visualize includes a 99% uptime SLA. Analyze includes a 99.9% uptime SLA. Fuse includes a 99.99% uptime SLA. Higher SLAs reflect the dedicated infrastructure and priority support included with those plans.

What programming languages and frameworks are supported by IAPM?

IAPM is not limited to a programming language per se. We support all applications that can leverage commodity OpenTelemetry libraries. Check our documentation for more details.

Is IAPM OpenTelemetry compliant?

Absolutely! We also offer NuGet package which are used for additional data OpenTelemetry attribution or low-level integration with IAPM.

Can custom instrumentation be added to application and be visible in IAPM?

Custom instrumentation is easy to add. All instrumentation is done by additional attribution to OpenTelemetry Activities. You can add nested Activities (spans inside of a trace), tags per span or baggage items that apply through the whole trace.

Does IAPM support on-premise applications?

Definitely! IAPM can monitor an on-premise application as long as the installed application has the latest IAPM integration packages and outbound Internet connectivity so that it can communicate with the IAPM servers.

Does IAPM support containerized applications?

Definitely! IAPM can monitor a containerized application if the container has the latest IAPM integration packages and outbound Internet connectivity so that it can communicate with the IAPM servers.

Does IAPM support Serverless computing?

Definitely! IAPM can monitor a Serverless compute if the function has the latest IAPM integration packages and outbound Internet connectivity so that it can communicate with the IAPM servers.

Does IAPM support Azure App Services?

Definitely! IAPM can monitor an Azure App services if the app service or web job has the latest IAPM integration packages and outbound Internet connectivity so that it can communicate with the IAPM servers.
